Namesake: Copperhead Snake

The Copperheads are named after the eastern copperhead snake, which is one of the only poisonous snakes found in Ohio, and prevalent in the southeastern portion of the state.

Holding true to the team's philosophies in support of education, the name was determined by a contest amongst Southeast Ohio elementary school students. “Copperheads” beat out  other submissions, like “Flying Squirrels.”
