The Copperheads (4-18) took on the Hamilton Joes (10-9) at home. The Joes took this game 16-9.
The Copperheads finished with nine runs, seven hits and five errors. The Joes had 16 runs, 11 hits and zero errors.
Jacob Napier (#34) started on the mound for the Cheads. He had five strikeouts, five walks and three earned runs in four innings pitched.
The Joes scored early at the top of the first to bring them up 1-0. They got another run on the board at the top of the third.
At the bottom of the third, Eli Mandler (#18) walked to first. Zach Reeder (#2) singled to center field and Mandler advanced to second. Mandler stole third. Brady Kaufman (#25) doubled down the left field line; Reeder advanced to third causing Mandler to score, bringing the score to 2-1. Fox Spears (#19) pop flied to center field, Kaufman advanced to third and Reeder scored to tie the game 2-2. Cole Davis (#23) pop flied out to center field; Kaufman scored bringing the Cheads up 2-3. Wyatt Fether (#4) singled to right field, but Konnor Pittman (#14) struck out swinging to end the third inning.
At the top of the fourth, the Joes scored two more runs to bring them up 4-3.
At the top of the fifth, Karson Griggs (#31) took the mound for the Copperheads. He had one strikeout, two walks and three earned runs in one inning pitched.
Hamilton scored five more runs to pull ahead 9-3.
At the top of the sixth, Kenyon McQueen (#38) took the mound for the Cheads. He had three walks and one earned run in 0.2 innings pitched.
The Joes scored three runs to bring them up 12-3. Alex Noe (#40) subbed in to pitch for the Copperheads during the top of the sixth. He had one walk and four earned runs in 3.1 innings pitched.
At the bottom of the sixth, Pittman, Jayden Kennedy (#6) and Mandler walked. Pittman scored after Reeder was hit by pitch to make the score 12-4. Kaufman flied out to right field, Mandler advanced to third, letting Kennedy to score. The score at the end of the sixth was 12-5.
At the top of the seventh, the Joes scored two more runs to make the score 14-5.
In the bottom of the seventh, Davis singled to center field. Fether grounded out to second and Davis advanced to third. Pittman singled to left field and then stole second. Kennedy walked to first. Easton Nuzum (#19) walked to first, allowing Davis to score making the game 14-6.
The Joes scored a run at the top of the eighth to make the score 15-6.
At the bottom of the eighth, Kaufman, Mason Wagner (#5) and Dawson Kennedy (#35) walked. Logan Martin (#39) grounded out to center field. Dawson Kennedy advanced to second, Wagner advanced to third and Kaufman scored to bring the game to 15-7. Landon Baker (#11) walked to first. Nate Silvus (#1) walked and Wagner scored to bring the score 15-8. Dawson Kennedy scored on a wild pitch to end the eighth inning 15-9.
Hamilton scored one run in the top of the ninth to make the score 16-9.
The Cheads couldn’t add any more runs to the board in the ninth inning, so the Joes took the victory 16-9.
Konnor Pittman was the Wings Over Player of the Game. He had one run and two hits.

The Southern Ohio Copperheads is a community-owned, student-operated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Established in 2002, the Copperheads is a summer collegiate wooden bat baseball team that competes in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and plays its home games at Bob Wren Stadium in Athens, OH. The Copperheads organization strives to provide the most affordable means of family-friendly outdoor entertainment in southeast Ohio. Tickets to the Copperheads games are $5 and children under the age of 5 receive free admission. Staffed by Ohio University students, the Southern Ohio Copperheads also serve as a “learning lab” for student interns looking to work in the sport and entertainment industry.
