The Copperheads (2-8) took on the Flag City Sluggers at home (5-5) in the Turn-It-Gold game sponsored by Precision Imprint. The Sluggers took this one, 5-1.
The Cheads finished with one run, one hit and one error. The Sluggers had five runs, eleven hits and two errors.
Jacob Napier (#34) started on the mound for the Cheads. He had six strikeouts, four earned runs in seven innings.
The Copperheads were able to get the first point on the board. At the bottom of the second, Nate Silvus (#1) reached first base on an error to third. Konnor Pittman (#7) reached first on an error to third and was able to advance to second. Silvus scored off an unearned run to bring the Copperheads up 1-0 heading into the third inning.
With Slugger’s Trenten Smith and Timothy Leark on first and second, Sluggers Mickey Anderson hit a homer to left field at the top of the fourth, bringing the score 1-3.
At the bottom of the sixth, Eli Mandler (#18) singled to left field then went on to steal second and eventually third. Cole Davis (#23) and Fox Spears (#19) struck out to end the sixth inning.
Sluggers Miles Mitchell scored after a hit by Drew Tajbilk went straight down the left field baseline, putting Flag City up 1-4 at the top of the seventh. The Copperheads were unable to respond at the bottom of the seventh.
Logan Martin (#39) took the mound for the Cheads at the top of the eighth. He had one strikeout and one earned run in two innings.
Sluggers Timothy Leark reached first on a fielder’s choice and stole second. The Sluggers advanced the score 1-5 after Atticus Huffstutler singled to center field, allowing Leark to score at the top of the eighth.
At the bottom of the eighth, Mason Wagner (#5) got a hit-by-pitch to put him on first base. Dawson Kennedy got a walk and would then be replaced by Lance Morgan (#30) on first as a pinch runner. With Mandler up to hit, he reached on a fielder’s choice with Wagner out at third. Zach Reeder (#2) hit to right field, allowing Morgan to advance to third and Mandler to second. Davis walked to first, and with bases loaded, Spears flew out to center field to give the Copperheads their third and final out of the eighth inning.
Neither team was able to add any more runs to the score in the final inning of the game.
Silvus was the Wings Over Player of the Game. He had one run.
The Cheads return to Copperhead Stadium on Thursday, June 18th at 7:05pm to face the Flag City Sluggers. If you can’t make the game, catch the broadcast on Flo Sports. Go Copperheads!

The Southern Ohio Copperheads is a community-owned, student-operated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Established in 2002, the Copperheads is a summer collegiate wooden bat baseball team that competes in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and plays its home games at Bob Wren Stadium in Athens, OH. The Copperheads organization strives to provide the most affordable means of family-friendly outdoor entertainment in southeast Ohio. Tickets to the Copperheads games are $5 and children under the age of 5 receive free admission. Staffed by Ohio University students, the Southern Ohio Copperheads also serve as a “learning lab” for student interns looking to work in the sport and entertainment industry.
