The Copperheads (6-26) lost against the Michigan Monarchs (11-19) to finish a two-game series after game one was canceled.
The Copperheads finished with one run, two hits and one error. The Monarchs had 10 runs, 13 hits and one error.
Tyler Pfirrman (#41) started on the mound for the Cheads. He had three strikeouts, three earned runs, four hits and four walks in four innings pitched.
The Monarchs came out swinging to start the game, scoring two runs after a single to right field for one and another on an error, bringing the score to 2-0.
In the top of the third, the Monarchs got on the board again with a two-RBI double to center, scoring two more runs to bring the score to 4-0.
Karson Griggs (#31) got the nod on the mound in the fifth inning, ending Pfirrman’s night.
In the bottom of the sixth, Zach Reeder (#2) drew a walk and stole second, putting himself in scoring position. Cole Davis (#23) singled to left field, scoring Reeder to make the score 4-1.
The seventh inning brought some changes for the Copperheads, subbing in Brady Kaufman (#25) and Easton Nuzum (#12).
The top of the eighth brought more subs for the Cheads, bringing in Matthew Bright (#24) for Mason Wagner (#5), Dawson Kennedy (#35) for Davis, and Tino Diulus (#37) for Griggs. The Monarchs were able to tack on three more runs in the eighth inning, bringing the score to 7-1.
To start the ninth, Jack Bracken (#32) stepped on the mound to close out the game for the Copperheads.
The Monarchs capitalized on the change and scored three more runs in the ninth to bring the score to 10-1.
Karson Griggs was the Wings Over Player of the Game. He had six strikeouts, three hits, three walks, and zero earned runs.
The Copperheads will take on the Flag City Sluggers at the Marathon Diamonds on July 14 at 6:05 pm. The Copperheads will be at home next on July 15, when they take on the Flag City Sluggers at 7:05 pm. If you can’t make the game, catch the broadcast on Flo Sports. Go Copperheads!

Established in 2002, the Copperheads is a summer collegiate wooden bat baseball team that competes in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and plays its home games at Bob Wren Stadium in Athens, OH. The Copperheads organization strives to provide the most affordable means of family-friendly outdoor entertainment in southeast Ohio. Tickets to the Copperheads games are $5 and children under the age of 5 receive free admission. Staffed by Ohio University students, the Southern Ohio Copperheads also serve as a “learning lab” for student interns looking to work in the sport and entertainment industry.
