The Copperheads (2-7) came up short to the Lima Locos (7-2) to end their three-game series at home.
The Cheads finished with six runs, six hits and two errors. The Locos had 11 runs, 11 hits and three errors.
Jack Leonard (#13) started on the mound for the Copperheads. He had two 2.2 innings pitched, one strikeout, four walks, five hits by pitch and six earned runs.
Lima pulled ahead early with three runs in the first inning and added two more in the top of the second to put the score at 5-0. At the top of the third, Karson Griggs (#31) took the mound for the Cheads. He had 1.1 innings pitched, one hit by pitch and one strikeout. Going into the bottom of the third, the Locos were up 6-0.
Matthew Bright (#24) struck out to start the inning and a rain delay was called. The Cheads got a late start but Wyatt Fether (#4), Lance Morgan (#30) and Easton Nuzum (#12) were each able to walk. With bases loaded and one out, Eli Mandler (#18) hit a ground ball towards third for a double-play opportunity. Nuzum would be out at second but the throw to first was offline and out of play, advancing Mandler to second and scoring both Fether and Morgan.
Now with Mandler at second, Landon Baker (#11) hit an RBI single toward center field to score Mandler making it 6-3. The inning ended after a Jayden Kennedy (#6) strikeout.
Jack Bracken (#32) took the mound for the Copperheads at the top of the fifth. He had 3.2 innings pitched, one strikeout, four walks, one hit by pitch and four earned runs. Fether scored at the bottom of the sixth to bring the score to 6-4 heading into the seventh inning.
Jackson Dempsey (#) took the mound for the final inning and had two strikeouts, four hits by pitch, and one earned run. Fox Spears (#19) scored a home run in the bottom of the ninth to bring the score up 11-6. The Locos stayed ahead to edge out the Copperheads, taking the series 3-0.
Fether was the Wings Over Player of the Game. He had two runs and one hit.
The Cheads return to Copperhead Stadium on Tuesday, June 16th at 7:05pm to face the Flag City Sluggers for the Turn-it-Gold game. If you can’t make the game, catch the broadcast on Flo Sports. Go Copperheads!

The Southern Ohio Copperheads is a community-owned, student-operated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Established in 2002, the Copperheads is a summer collegiate wooden bat baseball team that competes in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and plays its home games at Bob Wren Stadium in Athens, OH. The Copperheads organization strives to provide the most affordable means of family-friendly outdoor entertainment in southeast Ohio. Tickets to the Copperheads games are $5 and children under the age of 5 receive free admission. Staffed by Ohio University students, the Southern Ohio Copperheads also serve as a “learning lab” for student interns looking to work in the sport and entertainment industry.
