
The Copperheads (2-5) took a loss to the Lima Locos (5-2) in the first of their weekend home-game series.
The Cheads finished with three runs, nine hits and one error. The Locos had seven runs, 10 hits and one error.
Rylan Sams (#16) started on the mound for the Cheads. He had five innings pitched, three strike outs, two walks, three hits by pitch, and four earned runs.
The Locos scored first at the top of the third and were able to end the inning up 3-0. Lance Morgan (#30) scored on an advance from third at the bottom of the third to bring the Copperheads 3-1.
At the bottom of the fourth, Brady Kaufman (#25) reached third and came around to score, bringing the score 3-2. The Locos advanced the score to 4-2 at the top of the fifth.
Dylan Klein (#22) took the mound at the top of the sixth. He had three innings pitched, three strikeouts, two walks and one earned run.
The Locos brought their lead up 5-2 in the top of the sixth.
Kenyon McQueen (#38) took the mound for the final inning of the game. He had two strikeouts, two walks and two runs.
In the ninth inning, the Locos racked up two final runs. The Copperheads had to make a rally in the ninth inning and it opened up with a lead off double from Josh Caudill (#17). After back-to-back outs, Caudill scored off a hit from Morgan.
A hit-by-pitch to Easton Nuzum (#12) and a walk to Eli Mandler (#18) put the game-tying run at the plate with Jayden Kennedy (#16), but a full-count strikeout would end the game with the final score 7-3.
Morgan was the Wings Over Player of the Game. He had two hits, one run and one RBI.
It was Beach Night at Copperhead Stadium and the fans and staff were decked out in Hawaiian shirts and leis. The team joined in on the beach-themed fun with custom jerseys made by Hocking Hills Garment Center. The game also featured themed activities such as a hula-hoop contest, water bucket relay race, and coconut bowling.
The Cheads return to Copperhead Stadium on Saturday, June 13th at 7:05pm to face the Lima Locos for OUCU Firework Night. If you can't make it, check out the broadcast on Flo Sports. Go Copperheads!

The Southern Ohio Copperheads is a community-owned, student-operated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Established in 2002, the Copperheads is a summer collegiate wooden bat baseball team that competes in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and plays its home games at Bob Wren Stadium in Athens, OH. The Copperheads organization strives to provide the most affordable means of family-friendly outdoor entertainment in southeast Ohio. Tickets to the Copperheads games are $5 and children under the age of 5 receive free admission. Staffed by Ohio University students, the Southern Ohio Copperheads also serve as a “learning lab” for student interns looking to work in the sport and entertainment industry.
